The J.W. Springer (Retired)
"The J.W. Springer" (now retired) is pictured in the photos below. It is moored at the North Entrance to the Arkansas River
at
Riverfront
Drive and Locust Street. The Rescue Boat was named for the Late Chief Wesley Springer, who
gave
47 years of service to the NLRFD!
The J.W. Springer is manned by Rescue 1 (and Engine 1) of Central
Station.
The Fireboat "J. W. Springer has a Hale Portable Fire Pump from the Hale Transportable
Series and is a
Model HPT200-B18.
It is powered by a Briggs and Stratton/ Vanguard Engine two cylinder/18 HP engine. The
pump has a 3 inch intake, which would receive water from the Arkansas River, and a 2 1/2 inch discharge outlet.
The pump on the J. W. Springer is capable of producing a flow of 225 GPM at 50 PSI. The maximum pressure is
165 PSI.
The J.W. Springer also has the ability for rescues in the Arkansas River, should the need arise.
