1977 Chevrolet Light Rescue of the
North Little Rock Fire Department

The North Little Rock Fire Department purchased a light-duty rescue in 1977. The main assignment of the new apparatus
was to provide the power to pull the Bomb Trailer. The new rescue was originally housed at Station 2 at 2301East Broadway.
The body for this vehicle was built locally. Since the radio code for a Bomb Threat was "Signal 80," the new rescue was given the number designation of "RESCUE 80." Rescue 80 was transfered to Station 6 within the next two years. This gave the NLRFD two rescue squads to respond to alarms. At this time, a rescue and a pumper responded on vehicle accidents and medical runs The apparatus pictured above remained at Station 6 as Rescue 80 until the fall of 1992, when Rescue 80 was reassigned to Station 5. A Ford/Central rescue/ mini-pumper then became Rescue 80.

The last assignment of the 1977 Chevrolet rescue was as Rescue 18 at Station 4. It is pictured in that assignment above.
The 1977 Chevrolet Rescue of the NLRFD was sold at the NLR City Auction in September, 2004. The arrival of the 2003 International/ Ferrara Heavy Rescue/ Pumper for Rescue 80 had allowed the 1992 Ford/Central Mini Pumper-Rescue to be moved from Rescue 80 to Station 4 as Rescue 18. This left the 1977 Chevy Rescue with no assignment except as a Standby Rescue. Rescue 18 or Rescue 16 are normally used as Standby Rescues if Rescue 19 or Rescue 80 are in the shop, so the decision to sell the 1977 Chevrolet Rescue was made.
